Session Inspiration #1 – Penarth Child Photography

On this dark and gloomy January day I’m looking back the summer – it keeps me sane and takes the chill from my bones. This is the first of my posts in which I aim to give you a little session inspiration. I find many of my customers know what look they want to get from their session but are not sure the best time to schedule it and what location to choose. In this series I will show you example sessions and break down the detail for you so you can get a better idea about picking the right time for your session.

January is always a time for organisation, planning and reflection. Taking stock of last years sessions, visiting trade shows to look at beautiful products and planning the shoots for the year ahead in old and new locations. Every year I manage to find more new and beautiful locations to shoot in. This little find happened by accident. I usually shoot in the field opposite but as I passed this spot in my little car the evening light just took my breath away. It’s a keeper and I’ll be shooting here again this year for sure!

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again … IT’S ALL ABOUT THE LIGHT. Even the most everyday location can turn into something magical in the right light. Locations don’t have to be all singing, all dancing. Find the right moment and even a grass verge by the side of the road can look magical (disclaimer – I’ve never held a session by the side of a busy road but you get where I’m coming from!). In the summer evening light is best, it’s softer and less harsh on little eyes. You also get hat magical glow and there’s plenty of it on show in these images.

We stayed up a bit late for this session, well past this little man’s bed time but it was worth it (for the light) and lots of cuddles always make it better when you are too tired to even function at the end of an hour of running (goodness this man could RUN!) around in the grasses.

Session Info: This session took place in August in a field on the outskirts of Penarth in the Vale of Glamorgan. It was the end of a hot and sunny day and the session took place in the evening at about 8pm.

I have already pre-booked roughly half of my location sessions this year already so if you’d like to pre-register your interest in grabbing one of the remaining sessions slots it’s dead easy and FREE. Summer is always the busiest time of year for me and by popping yourself on my list you’ll get first choice of available spaces. Just click here, leave me your details and I’ll get back to you soon.

Until next time,
