Swan Princess – Cardiff Child Photography
Perhaps this post should be called ‘What to do when a child just doesn’t want to be photographed”. This was very definitely the case on this occasion but the reasons quite unique.
I have known this little one’s Mum (an excellent local studio photographer) for a few years. I have photographed her family twice before; once when this little lady was brand new to the world nut this time she was much more aware of what was going on. You see this little beauty has ‘photographer’s child syndrome‘. It’s very common. My youngest has it – he runs a mile as soon as I get my camera out. He’s grown up with it and it’s too much of a big thing for him. He know’s it’s what Mummy does and he doesn’t want anything to do with it. Not in a horrible way you must understand, he just plays me up because he knows he can (bless him). I’ve got loads of beautiful images of other people’s children and few of my own *heaves a gentle sob*.
The answer is often to commission someone else to do the work for you. Someone independent. This usually works (and is very frequently why people book me!) but on this occasion she just hated the camera. The physical camera. Not me but the black box I held in my hands. Hmmm, I’ve faced many challenges in my 10 years but this was a new one to me.
So, I hid behind bushes. We distracted her. I hid my camera behind bags and pretended to do something else. It took a while but it worked.
Much more to share with you from my recent sessions in the next few days. Oh and don’t forget my discounted Christmas Mini Sessions are now on sale. Half the spaces have already been sold but there’s still time to grab a spot. I know it’s early but it’s a great idea for Christmas gifts.
Until next time,
